Ever heard someone say “the shaft is the engine of the golf club”?

That creates a pretty clear picture of the shaft’s importance, but is probably a bit inaccurate.  Noted club designer Tom Wishon wrote an article a few years back that likened the club shaft to be more like a car transmission.  The shaft generates no movement on its own… unlike an engine.  You are the engine (since you hold the club and cause the shaft to move), but the shaft transfers your motions and speed to the club head and then through impact to the ball… much like a car’s transmission sends the engine’s power to the wheels.

Now that we have that straightened out, what are the important factors in getting the right shaft for your swing?  Flex?  Weight? Bend Profile?

In my next few posts we will explore those three areas.  Stay tuned…😊
